Punk Lives Magazine

I bought some of these when they first came out. I thought the photos were good quality and would cut them up and stick them on my bedroom walls. I will try and find my favorite photo of Colin of GBH with his spaghetti spiked hair. You can buy a CD of the magazines online or download them here http://www.megaupload.com/?d=99ZRSMON In the meantime here's the issue with The Mob.

Sud Lincha

I got a comment from a hardcore band in St. Petersburg, Russia. They play some interesting DIY hardcore. Not sure what they are singing about but the vocals are of the throat shredding variety and the music on the punky side of mid tempo hardcore rather than less desirable metal. I'm not trying to be picky as its a good demo effort and it may be my computer but the guitar could have been louder. They are worth a listen on myspace or download http://www.mediafire.com/?un5j8d9hyg4wd9r . I like the art work which looks like the American eagle being lynched.

Crow's Foot

Crow's Foot (http://www.purevolume.com/cfoot) played a small show in Sarasota at the Bike Shoppe, New College. Thanks guys great show. See you again soon. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=acA1We4sRv0 Part 1

Superb anarcho, crust with DIY ethic.

Floppy Big Toes

Stiff Little Fingers? No Floppy Big Toes doing a bunch of covers. http://mf-enterprizes.com/Floppy%20Big%20Toes.html

Exiles From Pluto

http://mf-enterprizes.com/My%20Recordings%20mp3.html
The band's name is a little misleading as they are quite punky with songs like "Class War" and "Fucking Margaret". If you like bands like Riot//Clone then you'll like these boys. http://mf-enterprizes.com/My%20Recordings%20mp3.html

Fifth Column

A band you may have already heard of. Female vocals, anarcho punk al a Bullshit Detector era, but tight sound.

The Dirty Toilets

http://mf-enterprizes.com/Dirty%20Toilets%20Page.html Well I love these guys. Sounds like some friends who got together, can't play their instruments, but that's the beauty. Offensive, immature, who cares. My mum was telling my kids that my band back in the day was awful, but not to say anything to me. They told me and I said "yes we were, that's what punk was all about".

Burning Rhythm

http://mf-enterprizes.com/Burning%20Rhythm.html Kinda remind me of Alternative TV, maybe the guy's voice was a bit Perryish. Probably the London accent.

Original Sin

Very good stuff here from this band. Also read their history. It's very detailed and takes me back to those troubled yet fun times. http://mf-enterprizes.com/Original%20Sin%20MP3%20Page.html

Curfew

http://mf-enterprizes.com/Curfew.html This band has quite a few tracks on the site, with a rehearsal and live gig. When I think of the word "curfew" I think of the song by Amebix which is a lot faster than these guys, but they are still worth a listen.

Urban Dissidents

5 or 6 tracks here from a good anrcho band.

The Worms

I was listening to some stuff by Burning Rhythm then did an internet seach and came up with a great site http://mf-enterprizes.com/index.htm which has some super music by The Worms, Chaos, 16 Guns and other good bands liek Original Sin. I'll leave it up to you to find the site and download the goodies.

Crass

http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/musicblog/2009/jul/08/crass-punk-band-anarchy
Intersting article by John Robb (Membranes). Also photo of Angelina Jolie with Crass t-shirt! While I might at first think "what the hell, she's rich and establishment", we are all part of the system. One day when I've milked enough out of it I'll drop back out of sight. You can't fix something that's permanently broken.

Kykloopien Sukupuutto

Assault Your Senses 7 was a lot of fun. Bob (MSP) was energetic with his acrobatics and the band played a rousing set. I have some videos of the bands. As usual these things take me an interminable length of time and it's a pain. Here's a link to a couple of songs from Panzram http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ecvtGYP5MQ

10,000 crazy

I just recorded my 10,000th band. Off of the "Ha Last Week" comp tape "Wolfbane" became the 10,000th band I have on record/CD/tape/video.

Crow's Foot and Volcanic Slut

Attended the Assault Your Senses 6 in SRQ the other night. Reasonable size crowd with some excellent local talent. The bands were a little shy and didn't put the light on so the video is really just audio.

Crows Foot are from Pinellas County and played some of the most enjoyable crust I have heard live for a long time. I like them because of the thoughtful lyrics and DIY nature. Super nice kids that I hope are "in it for life". I have their demo tape and a split ep with Deserter.

Volcanic Slut spawn is the illigitimate sons of Bad Brains and Slayer and play hyper fast thrash with psychotic vocals. This is only part of the set these Tampa lads played.

Here's their demo:

The bands didn't want the lights on so the visual portion is pretty useless, so I have tried to upload just the audio.

The Amputees

A search for the band turns up little. There is a garage band of the same name outta Ohio, but this was a band from the Tampa, FL area. Tampa was the capitol of death metal, but these young lads decided to play punk ala '82 anarcho era. They even do a cover of Tube Disasters. Recently Allen of the band contacted me, as I had previously posted the audio of the band when they supported The Casualties and asked if I still had the video. I cannot upload from VCR to the computer so I re-filmed it. I think it came out ok. It's on YouTube.com.

History of the video if you are interested. An ex-pat Brit used to put on shows at The State Theater (No Clubs Productions or something like that). There were some great shows, but I stopped going there when he f...d me over a damaged record I bought at his record shop. Anyhoo, when I arrived at this gig I locked my keys in the car and had to call for a locksmith. The cheap bastard that I am was also parked illegally in someone's vacant lot as I refused to pay for parking. While I waited for the locksmith I did not want to miss anything so I set up the video and left it recording. I had approached Endless Struggle about recording them and then sent a copy of the gig to them in Salt Lake City. So I never actually saw The Amputees play live, but do have the footage and now so do you.

Black Easter

Here's some stuff for John, who had not heard of Black Easter. A much earlier post has a live recording I did at the Georger Robery pub in October 1982. ( If I could go bakc in time it would be to '82) This is their "Ready to Rot" ep. If I get round to it I'll scan the cover.

Great mid tempo punk and you know it's rae as they make it onto Killed By Death 5!

I think I have another live recording as well.

American Cheeseburger

Here's what I have so far. I am uploading the gig video to YouTube and Divshare (password: RPM). It is taking hours to do. Let me know if you can access the files. So far I have not been able to open the videos myself using Quick Time. I got Itunes to work and I am uploading to YouTube which still has 2 hours to go and the same with Divshare. I'll leave the computer on while I go to sleep.
I bought a great DVD entitled "The First Three Years"from the band which has footage from Athens, Boston and Allentown.
They also have a split 7" which I do not have and a split LP with Religious As Fuck.

CellGraft

On St. Paddy's Day I saw American Cheeseburger in Sarasota. Supporting them were local bands including grindcore outfit Cellgraft who are from Tampa. Here are a couple of tracks from them. It's a video, but it was too dark for visual. http://www.divshare.com/download/10821959-c14

Die Kreuzen 82 Demo

While the UK bands in 82 were pumping out oi in the US the bands were getting faster and in the late 80s many would crossover to thrash. Here these Mid Westerners play some demo tunes from the Cows and Beer 7" era. I loved their LP from a couple of years later.
Here's a website with an interview with the bassist. http://www.furious.com/perfect/diekreuzen.html

No Retreat/ No Surrender

Following the recommendation of Space Astonomy why not head on over to http://witchpolice.blogspot.com/2010/01/time-travel-no-retreatno-surrender.html for a rare comp from Winnipeg or download it here. http://www.archive.org/download/VariousArtists-NoRetreatnoSurrender/VariousArtists-NoRetreatnoSurrender_vbr_mp3.zip Nothing too amazing here, but you may find some tracks you like as it's pretty varied and DIY. A little too emo, pop punk and ska for my liking although Grandpa's Army do a nice two tone sound ala The Specials. The two bands that stood out for me were Naked Midgets and Pratle. Runners up were 7-Teen, Just For Kicks , My Checkered Past.

Bored Youth was 4 suburban kids from West Bloomfield, Michigan- a suburb of Detroit. The singer was Rob Michaels who is now a lawyer in Chicago. There were two brothers- John and Robert Katz. Robert commited suicide in his first year of college at U of M. Robert and Rob were students there and graduated from HS in 1982. John graduated in '83. You can get a some background info from the Swindle Issue no. 12. I can't remember much about the drummer.

drummer was (is) Fred Ingam. Just spoke to him moments ago and he's amazed at the amount of bored youth stuff on the internet. One of their best, if not the best show was with the misfits at the Freezer Theater on Cass in Detroit in the early eighties. It was a multiple bill with the meatmen, necros, the Mcdonalds, NA and maybe L7? Long time ago, hard to remember exactly. Freezer was a great place to see bands of that era.

Virus update

The pscyho thrashers have a great new record out. Full details on their webpage http://www.myspace.com/virusthrash

Elti-Fits comments update

Looks like the band memebrs had lost touch and are hopefully now reunited.

"Graham Ellis said...
Hi - I was a member of Elti-Fits (guitarist) - although we formed and recorded in Manchester the bassist and I were from London, the singer was from Loughborough. The drummer was a Mancunian though. we didn't have a song called "Tony Wilson F***r" but the sentiment was expressed in less robust language in the song "Their Grip" which contains the lyric "Tony Wilson sits street sucking"."

Waxwork Dummies update

"Mould ere (Waxwork Dummies singer),How random is this?. I lost my copy of this recording years ago, so big cheers Pogel. Sid did sit in and play drums alongside Stuart once or twice for "Concrete Indian" when he was with Flux of Pink Indians, who we gigged with a few times.I did go on and play in other bands equally as obscure (Dormant Sons and The Skraelings). Cheered up my day."

Someone also put a post on about a Facebook page about the Chelmsford scene, but I couldn't find any link.

X-Cretas update

I guess there may be a way for Blogger to tell you automatically when comments are posted. Otherwise it's hard to tell if someonw puts a comment on well after a psot is made. In case anyone is interested here are some good comments from band members of psots on their bands.

"Hi Pogel, this is Trev the vocalist of the X-Cretas. Just thought i'd say cheers for posting our demos as i haven't actually got a copy myself :-) Was racking my brains trying to think where the gig was that you refer to and, although a lot of that time is a bit of a blur to me now, i'm pretty sure we never played the Fulham Greyhound so i reckon it was probably the Pied Bull in Islington. In case you're in the slightest bit interested, here's a bit of an update on what happened to the X-Cretas and Anthrax. Loz, who you mention, went on to join Anti Sect, while i joined Bug Central (with Roger and Ben Blasphemy from Gravesend) and i'm now in Active Slaughter. Anthrax have just released a comp of all their stuff.Anyway, cheers again."

No Fraud

As previously posted No Fraud are on tour and playing in Sarasota on Saturday February 27th. They play US style hardcore punk and have been doing so for 25 years. Try and catch them if they come near you. Here's some video footage of them in Tampa back in 1986. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eTiIJrY48iQ
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VazrZTDpf_w&feature=related

Maybe I'll video them on Saturday and get a modern update.

2/27/10 What a fantastic show! The guys really rocked. I have a super video, but now have to buy some different cables to connect with the computer.

Einsturzende Neubauten

I visited a friend who was a skater in Buffalo N.Y. back in the day. He likes industrial music so our music paths cross. I like the wierder, experimental electronic music. This CD is worth listening too, but is not as far out as some of their other material. I'll dig out some more punky toons soon. http://www.divshare.com/playlist/677144-7e3 Password " RPM"

John Foxx

John Foxx was the first vocalist for Ultravox and while they went off to be pop stars John Foxx made some original experimental, electronic music of his own, on his own and on his own label. Older punks may remember this fondly, those that want rowdy thrash may not like it.

I have also heard the 1995 "Shifting City", but this is more in industrial dance vein and I don't really care for it. In between and even more recently he has done numerous recordings, but I like the early stuff. I also have the first two singles. Foxx has a website http://www.metamatic.com/

Murder Suicide Pact

Last night I went to see Bob and the boys play. There is a new venue in Sarasota on 12th St. Just a rented house with the gig in the front room. The sound was pretty good. I saw local bands Injustice System and Thaw. INJ/SYS had a 3 piece with drums, vocals and guitar. Fast hardcore which I liked. I have a demo cassette, but who knows if I'll ever figure out how to connect the tape deck to the computer again. The four guys in Thaw played one song that lasted for 15 minutes. Very slow, loud sludgecore. It was a nice break from breakneck speed music. MSP now have Alonso (also of Control De Estado super band link http://www.myspace.com/controldeestado) now on bass. MSP were as tight as ever and Bob was full of energy doing high kicks, rolls and lifting members of the audience up head high and spinning them around. They have a new record coming out soon. Here's their website http://www.myspace.com/mspfl Bob gave me a demo of the new stuff. This is only the rough version and not the finished record quality. http://www.divshare.com/playlist/677125-08b Password "RPM".

Two weeks from now No Fraud are playing at the same venue in SRQ.

ratina-ja-pauke

The excellent http://saapasnahkatorni.blogspot.com/ has come up with a comp that will blow your mind away. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=45Q4FIMR I have heard other comps that profess to be proto punk from the '60s, but this is the real deal with wacked out psychos kickin' out the jams. Well done indeed.

Terveet Kadet

TK are back together with three original members and have a new record out. So far I have heard one track which is classic. It's a 10" available from http://www.punkinfinland.net/
